Appreciating Milk Moovement Volunteers

Written by Mooreen | Apr 20, 2023 5:27:20 PM

Volunteering can take a lot of time and effort but greatly impact the community. For many, volunteering is a way to contribute to their community while forging meaningful connections.

In celebration of National Volunteer Week, we are showcasing our herd members who dedicate their time and energy to organizations they care about. Milk Moovement offers flex time, which allows its herd members to participate in volunteering.

What do you like about volunteering?
Working with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada hits home as we have family living with blood cancer and have also lost a friend to the disease. Seeing first-hand the impact that these funds have on supporting patients and their loved ones and funding vital research that brings us closer to a cure is incredibly impactful.

Where do you volunteer?
Girl Guides of Canada

Do you have a title?
Guider

How long have you been a part of this organization?
I was in Girl Guides as a kid for eight years, and now as an adult Guider for a little over three years.

What does a Guider do?
Plan a wide range of programming for Embers (7 to 8 years old). Being a Guider is a lot of work but a high-reward job. We plan weekly meetings with fun activities, sell cookies, plan camps, and more.

Do you have any proud accomplishments as a Guider?
I’ve watched a lot of Embers grow and gain skills through Girl Guide activities. I’ve had Embers who were hesitant to participate in programming and were incredibly shy. By the end of the year they were leading games and being in the middle of everything.

What do you like about volunteering?
Girl Guides is general programming, allowing kids to try new things and discover their interests. We get to do activities that you would never get outside of Girl Guides, like sleeping over at a museum! It's great to watch kids grow and build friendships.
